Farewells and New Beginnings

Unless you travel a lot and drop into other CrossFit boxes along the way, you may not know just how awesome our coaches are at United Barbell. We get to take for granted that our coaches love what they do. They are constantly learning and integrating that knowledge into their craft. We absolutely believe that we hire and help develop the best coaches in San Francisco, if not the world. We strive to provide an environment where our coaches become the best at what they do and we think it shows.

Part of having stellar coaches is the mixed pain and pleasure of watching them flourish and come into their own. We're going through this right now, as we say goodbye to not one, but three of our coaches who are leaving the nest to pursue their dreams.

James' last day will be Friday, October 2nd, leaving to open his new CrossFit gym in Oakland. We'll let you in on the details when we're given the ok by James - he's still in stealth mode as he readies his space to open the doors to his new East Bay community. James has been with us since the beginning, and opening his own affiliate has always been his plan and dream. We couldn't be more proud that he is bringing it to fruition, although we will miss him terribly. Congratulations Coach James!

Trent joined UB early on and immediately got us hooked on his brand of infectious mischief and bro badassery. Since his son Grey was born, Trent has struggled between staying in SF and moving home to be closer to his extended family and work on his dream of opening his own gym. As they should, Trent's big dreams won the battle and he will be moving back to Wisconsin to turn his dream into a reality. Trent's last day is Tuesday, September 29th. We send our best wishes and our love with him.

Dividing her time between UB and SFCF, Kristin has always brought her diverse interests and experiences into the gym. As her focus has moved from Oly to Powerlifting to Strongman, it has been clear that she has become not only an incredible strength athlete, but an incredible coach. We're not the only people who noticed. Kristin will be the Head Coach for a new strength & conditioning gym opening in Oakland late in 2015/early 2016.  She will still be with us for a few months yet, but we're sharing it now as we showcase the other achievements by our remarkable coaches.

So if all this success and achievement is surprising to you, and you didn't know quite how badass your coaches are, we encourage you to take a harder look at your coach in your next class. These people are the leaders of the strength & conditioning industry - they're dedicated, knowledgeable, passionate individuals. It's bittersweet, but we fully expect to have to make more of these announcements in the future, as our coaches graduate UB university and continue to climb to the very top of the mountain.

Help us give them the send off they deserve!  Join us this Friday, September 25th to say farewell Trent & James!
