This week's Awesome burst onto the scene at UB way back in 2014. To me, he and his partner-in-everything Loryn represented a new crew of young, energetic members starting to dominate the evenings at UB. Adrian was well on his way to being recognized for his awesomeness, embedding himself in our community right from the start.
Then a knee injury struck at the end of that year, and things changed for Mr. Austintatious. For a man so used to letting loose and just getting after everything in life, he was now on the long, slow road to recovery. That road isn't exciting. That road isn't fun. That road is lonely and tiring. In other words, it's a lot of things Adrian is NOT.
But did you hear him complain? Not me. That vibrant, friendly, open personality never faded. Did he disappear the way some people do when injured? Nope. Besides being painstakingly committed to his rehab, he was at UB for all the events - participating in whatever way he could. For those of you lucky enough to have never been seriously injured, just know that his attitude through recovery is RARE.
And now, recovered and healthy, we just get to enjoy more and more of this rare man. Co-captain of the Black Mambas in the UB House Cup, competing in the Open, probably staying out later than I have in 10 years, Adrian is living life to the fullest. Mr. Awesome, I salute you!
