Welcome Aboard!

If you have been around on the weekends, you should have noticed some new faces around UB.  No, I am not talking about some of your cool new classmates.  I'm referring to your awesome new weekend coaches!   Please give them a warm welcome.  We are excited to be adding these two to our team and look forward to them helping us continue to bring out the best in you!

Shannon de Peralta

Shannon is excited to have joined the United Barbell coaching staff. She's a former competitive gymnast (12 years) and gymnastics coach (2 years), and loves incorporating this unique background as one of her many strengths in CrossFit.  She made the switch to CrossFit in 2012, after a nod from one of her former teammates, and considers it one of the best decisions she's ever made.  Besides coaching, she also competes in CrossFit, and enjoys yoga on the days she's not training.

She studied kinesiology and biochemistry at the University of San Francisco, and her purpose through coaching is for her athletes to“see the beauty and strength of which their bodies are capable."

 

Max Cantor

When Max first moved to San Francisco in 2012, he wandered in to United Barbell but didn't fully appreciate the community and benefits of CrossFit and did not join at the time.  Instead, he continued strength training on his own with some distance running.  After completing the SF Marathon that year he got disillusioned with running and gave up conditioning completely.  

In 2014 he gave Crossfit and UB a second look and became hooked for life. While Max's strength and conditioning gains quickly eclipsed anything he imagined was possible, the changes in his personality, outlook, and confidence and the changes he has witnessed in so many other members of the UB family were even more striking.  Waiting two years to join UB is one of his few regrets. 

Max is passionate about teaching along with health an wellness so coaching was a natural option.  Along with every UB coach, he is a strong believer in using proper technique to help every athlete in his class safely push their limits.

When Max is not coaching or working out, he runs Research and Development for a business software firm in San Francisco.  He is also a private pilot and his two favorite places in the world are anywhere under a barbell or anywhere a few thousand feet above one.
