Hey y'all. That's right, I said y'all. After almost 6 years we've decided to change up the system of the awesome. While we coaches plan to continue to honor the amazing awesomeness you bring to our box day after day, we wanted to simultaneously encourage you to get to know each other better. That way, if the week's awesome and you don't cross paths on the regular, you will at least get to know a little more about what makes their CrossFitting head tick.
We will initiate our new system with none other than Mr. Ray N. Ray is a really dedicated lifter and athlete, who brings energy and focus to every class he attends. The man is all heart. And for those who don't have to fortune to know him learned it watching him attack 16.5 ... for 37:58 minutes. His epic battle wasn't just against the movements, but against his mental game. At one point he thought he couldn't finish and flirted with the idea of quitting. But the encouragement of his teammates and coaches reignited his vigor and he came back to finish the WOD. As the entire gym cheered him through the rest of the workout, his awesomeness was apparent to all!
Name: Ray N.
Nickname: Nagi/Young Nagi
Hometown: Kapaa, HI/Ventura, CA
Occupation: Business Development
When did you first start CrossFitting?: 2010 (though I *kinda* consider myself a born-again cross-fitter starting on my UB start date)
When did you first start CrossFitting at UB?: 2014
Favorite WOD: Any that are for quality. Or that have time for enthusiastic encouragement of swole-mates.
Least favorite WOD: 16.5
How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? When my mom was diagnosed with cancer, I took a leave of absence from work and moved back in with my parents in Ventura. Since I had so much time, I checked out a box with a friend and got hooked.
What is an unexpected way CrossFit has affected your life? I never expected that Crossfit would push me to pursue mobility gains more than my time doing yoga (which I did for about 6 years).
What is your favorite cheat meal? Any of them. #cheatdayeveryday
