This woman is a regular in my 7pm classes and caught my attention after I noticed how well and much she was lifting whenever a barbell was involved. She then proved herself to be a formidable unicorn during the Open when she completed the entire Snatch Ladder workout. The way this person shows up to me is strong, humble and kind. She is constantly smiling in my classes regardless of whether it’s getting to lift heavy weight which is clear she loves or performing bodyweight movements which are not as much in her wheelhouse. We bonded over sharing our experiences as being Competitors at Regionals years ago which I feel like is an incredible fun fact many probably don’t know about her. It is my honor and privilege, to share the live interview between myself and the one… the only… Kristine V!

When did you first start CrossFitting? Back in 2011.
How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? I started ballet when I was three, figure skating at seven and was part of the dance team in college. So I’ve always enjoyed competitive and challenging activities. After college, I looked for a workout regimen that I can add to my routine but could not find anything after trying things like TRX, Bikram Yoga and Barre3. I landed on a free trial through a friend and stuck with it since then!
Favorite WOD: I really like Grace because it’s fast, simple and still kills me at the end along with anything with overhead squats. I prefer working out with a loaded barbell!
Least Favorite WOD: Any bodyweight workout.
What is an unexpected way CrossFit has affected your life? It’s been a way to get to know people, and be more comfortable with strangers. When I moved here back in 2014, it took me two years later before I walked into UB as I was nervous about being in a new box. My delay was silly though as CrossFit has such a welcoming community (demonstrated by UB).
What are you most grateful for in your life recently? The opportunity to live in the USA after getting here with only a Student Visa and hopefully, getting my Green Card soon!
What are you most excited about having turn out later this year? Both excited and scared to plan my wedding! I know It will be fun while also super stressful trying to get things to be perfect.
What’s your definition of greatness? It’s not about being the best or doing things perfectly but it’s always striving to learn more in order to be better in whatever you do.
What’s something incredible that became possible for you? As in immigrant, it’s being able to live here in the beautiful city of San Francisco and meeting new people like the ones here at UB.
It’s your last day on earth and everything you’ve ever created and done has been erased from the planet and history books. You... have one final opportunity to share three things you know to be true about life… what would those be?
Eat (a lot! :P)
