Lift Up Autism! WOD

  • United Barbell

What is Lift Up Autism?

Two years ago, on October 19, 2013 Josh Everett, TrainHeroic, and the more than 350 boxes in the CrossFit community rallied together in spectacular fashion to support the Autism community in a worldwide workout event called Lift Up Luke. This "competition for a cause" specifically sought to support early diagnosis and treatment of Autism, raise funds for the Autism Tree Project Foundation in San Diego, and most importantly, turn a global spotlight on the measured and severe impact of Autism on families and individuals around the world.

This year, we're upping the ante and doubling down our efforts to take the impact of the event to another level.

And with your help, we can double the impact.

On September 19th, 2015 we’re rebooting the event under the more inclusive name of “Lift Up Autism” and calling athletes and coaches everywhere to mobilize around this cause.

This year, we're working to bring 500+ Boxes, 7500+ Athletes, and 50 countries around the world together for a day of community, awareness, and action.

We hope to see you there!  Sign up now to contribute!

BodySpec

BodySpec performs body fat and body composition testing using a truck equipped with a DXA scanner. In a fully-clothed 10-min scan, you'll learn more about your body than you've ever known, measuring body fat, muscle and bone.  The scan provides not only whole-body info but also a regional analysis.  Check out a sample report in their video.

These scans are comprehensive and individualized snapshots of your body that give you the information you need to:

  • Pinpoint the exact impact of a new training or diet plan
  • Track progress over time, down to exact muscle and fat changes in different areas of the body
  • Optimize your training to suit your body’s specific needs
  • Compare your bone density to others like you
  • Identify long-term health risks

How to Sign Up

1. Schedule a scan appointment on Friday,August 7th.  (Sign ups will be available to UB members exclusively until July 20th)

  • Simply click on your preferred appointment (green slots are available).
  • Select your scan package.
  • Fill out the payment and account info and then complete your intake form. (If on a shared computer, log yourself out before the next person signs up.)

2.  If you need to reschedule, simply log back into www.body-spec.com anytime 24 hours before your appointment.  Cancel your appointment and make another at your convenience.
3. On scan day, the BodySpec truck arrives at the gym. You show up for your appointment wearing clothes with no metal (workout clothes work great!)
4. Each client lies down on our scanner for 10 minutes. Afterwards, you’ll receive a 10-min consultation with BodySpec's fitness experts so you understand your scan results.  The whole appointment takes about 20 minutes.
5. Digital PDF copies of these results are uploaded into your account on the BodySpec website for you to access anytime!

Price

$45 per 1 scan
$85 per 2 scans

You can split the 2 scan package with friends or family.  Just have one person book both scans under his/her name, and then e-mail support@body-spec.com with the full name, e-mail address, and appointment time for the second person.  We’ll get things transferred over!

Scan Limitations

The scanner performs a very weak x-ray with radiation exposure equal to that from eating four bananas. They cannot scan pregnant women or individuals over 350 lbs due to scanner restrictions.

They ask clients to refrain from wearing metal to ensure accuracy of bone density readings. However, if you have metal that you cannot remove, you can still scan without a problem.

Here is a sample scan report so you can see for yourself!

The logistics and cost to bring Coach Wu Chuanfu and his staff to the United States is high. He would prefer to work with the same clients, athletes, and coaches both days as that would maximize the amount of benefit each student will receive. As a result he's offering a special deal for those looking to learn both the concepts of Chinese weightlifting AND have a full day of putting those theories and concepts to work!

California Strength Olympic Weightlifting Certification

This seminar will include 12 hours of practical instruction on the snatch and the clean and jerk. We will also cover proper squat, press, and pull technique. Instruction will cover the California Strength top-down system for learning and teaching the Olympic lifts. This seminar is relevant to people interested in learning the lifts, coaches who teach the lifts, and trainers who use such lifts in their programs. California Strength seminars are very "learn by doing!" Everyone who attends the seminar will lift weights, so wear appropriate attire and bring lifting shoes if you have them.

The California Strength Coaching Certification requires two additional hours on Sunday so that a written and practical exam can be taken. When passed, you are able to use the California Strength Coaching Certification as an accolade on your website, resume, etc.

Along with instruction, California Strength will be bringing members of the California Strength Olympic weightlifting team to demonstrate and assist. Current members include Spencer Moorman, Rob Blackwell, Scott Hisaka, Nicole Lim and others.
