The Gym

United Barbell is a CrossFit and Olympic-style weightlifting gym in San Francisco focused on community and quality coaching.

UB offers CrossFit classes and personal training; a strength class (SWOD) for athletes experienced in the power lifts; and personal training in both CrossFit and Olympic-style weightlifting.

United Barbell is also home to a nationally competitive Olympic-style lifting team.

Parking & Transportation

We are 2 blocks from AT&T Park, so parking can be challenging on a game day. Please check the Giants schedule before you drive!

PARKING

The meters outside United Barbell are free before 9am and after 6pm Monday-Saturday

There is free, non-metered parking:

  • On Brannan between Colin P. Kelly St. and Delancy St. on both sides
  • On Colin P. Kelly St. on both sides
  • On Delancy St. NW of Brannan St.
  • On Townsend St. between Colin P. Kelly St. and Embarcadero
  • All through South Park, and on the side streets leading to/from South Park
  • And most other alley ways!

MUNI BUS

Take the 30 or the 45 to the 4th & Brannan stop

Take the 10 to the 2nd & Brannan stop. We are the first storefront on the SW side of Brannan.

MUNI TRAIN

Take the T or N line to the Brannan stop, walk up Brannan until you reach 300.

BART

Take the 2nd/Montgomery station, walk down 2nd until you reach Brannan, turn right. We are the first storefront on the SW side of the street.

The Coaches

Jenny Werba

Jenny has always been an active person, and is game to try anything. Throughout her life, she has played sports, studied martial arts and pilates. Jenny is a national competitor in Olympic-style weightlifting, and a static trapeze aerialist.

Jenny thinks fitness should be serious fun.

Olivia de Santis

Despite an early background in gymnastics and circus arts, Olivia was spending her days hunched over a computer before she found CrossFit. Since then she has fully embraced an active lifestyle which includes weightlifting and acrobatics.

Olivia believes that everyone has a little bit of jock inside them waiting for the chance to get out.

James Kusama

James has been involved in athletic competitions his entire life. He discovered the Crossfit methodology during his time as a competitor and strength coach for boxing and MMA fighters, where he saw first hand the positive effects it had on both himself and his athletes. James is a competitive Olympic-style weightlifter.

James believes that you should possess a balance between power, speed, agility, and skill, and through hard work and clean nutrition, he will help you find it.

Trent's bio is coming soon - all you need to know for now is that he is a certified badass with a powerlifting background. He is UB's resident motivator, so if you ever need extra pump-u-up, he's the man to see.

Max Aita

Max Aita has been practicing Olympic Weightlifting as both an athlete and coach for over ten years. Max has studied under many highly successful coaches, including Ivan Abadjiev, Steve Gough, and Glenn Pendlay. He is known for his Woody Allen glasses and huge back squat.

In addition to coaching at UB, Max hosts group classes at California Strength in San Ramon. Max has trained several national medalists, as well as national record-holders, and has experience teaching Olympic lifting techniques to both beginners and veterans alike.
