Meet the coaches
Matthew (he/him) is a research scientist by trade, but you'll often see him starting the day off right with a morning workout.
Matthew started CrossFit in 2020 after swimming, powerlifting, and running for many years. He enjoys CrossFit because it bridges cardio and strength training while also providing an environment to learn and perfect new skills.
Outside of the gym and work, Matthew is an avid spirits collector -- ask him about whiskey recommendations!

James (he/him) proudly serves as an Active Duty member in the Coast Guard and works as an IT instructor where he finds joy in teaching and inspiring the next generation of fleet IT professionals. He discovered his passion for CrossFit in 2017 during his military deployment in Guam. While Dave specializes in Oly, he’s accomplished strength & conditioning trainer for all levels.
Tuvale (he/him) is a former powerlifter turned CrossFit enthusiast. Outside of CrossFit, he works to solve healthcare IT problems as his day job. Tuvale is passionate about cultivating a welcoming and inclusive community at United Barbell.
Nero (she/her) started her journey with CrossFit in 2017 in Hong Kong, a place known for being a perpetual state of stress and hurry.
Since then she has continued her focus on health and fitness, becoming a certified nutrition coach with a focus on supporting simpler approaches to healthy eating. Her specialty is helping others with busy schedules achieve their goals and find what they love about fitness, health, and wellbeing.
